⚠️ Risk warning: CFDs and leveraged forex are complex instruments with a high risk of losing money rapidly. Most retail accounts lose money. This content is education only, not investment advice or a recommendation.
Confluence means several independent reasons point to the same price area. A support level on its own is one reason. A support level that also sits at the 50% retracement of the last swing and on a rising trendline, in an uptrend, is a more interesting place to look for a trade. Confluence does not make a trade certain. It helps you choose fewer, better-prepared areas.
Independent reasons
The key word is independent. Each reason should come from a different kind of evidence:
- Structure and trend: the higher-timeframe direction and the latest swing points.
- Horizontal levels: old support and resistance, especially a level that flipped (resistance that became support).
- Geometry: a trendline or channel, or a Fibonacci retracement of the last swing.
- Behaviour at the level: a rejection candle, a lower-timeframe break of structure, or rising volume on the move away.
RSI, Stochastic and MACD are all calculated from the same closing prices, so three of them agreeing is closer to one reason than three. The indicator mistakes lesson covers this.
How to use it
- Write the reasons down before price arrives. Two or three independent reasons are plenty.
- Still wait for a trigger. Confluence tells you where to look, not when to act.
- Define the invalidation. A wide zone needs a wider stop and therefore a smaller position. See position sizing.
This lesson is educational. Confluence describes how many reasons agree; it does not raise any trade to a sure thing.
🛠️ Practice task
Use a real chart. This is for practice, not for placing a trade.
- Open Saudi Aramco (2222) on the daily chart. You can check the price on the Invvex 2222 page.
- Write the trend in one line, then mark the nearest flipped level (resistance that became support, or the opposite).
- Draw a Fibonacci retracement on the last completed swing and a trendline through two clear swing points.
- Find the area where at least two of these meet. Write down the reasons, the trigger you would need and the invalidation level.
- Repeat on gold H4 and compare with what price did next. Note one zone that failed and why.
