TradingView alerts: price, indicator and drawing alerts, step by step

An alert watches the chart for you and tells you when a condition happens, so you do not have to stare at the screen. TradingView alerts can be set on price, on an indicator, on a strategy or on a drawing such as a trend line. They run on TradingView's servers, so they work with your browser closed.

Create an alert

  1. Open the alert window. Press Alt+A (Option+A on Mac), click Alert in the top toolbar, use the + next to the price on the price scale, or right-click the chart.
  2. Choose the condition. Pick what to watch (the symbol's price, an indicator or a drawing) and how: for example Crossing, Greater Than or Less Than a value.
  3. Set frequency and expiry. Choose whether it triggers once or every time the condition is met, and when the alert should switch itself off.
  4. Name it and write a message. Give it a clear name (“XAUUSD back at 3,900 zone”) and a message that reminds you what to check, not what to do automatically.
  5. Choose notifications. Tick Notify in app (install the TradingView mobile app), pop-up, email or sound, then click Create.

Alerts on indicators and drawings

  1. Indicator alerts. Add the indicator first, then choose it as the condition, for example RSI crossing 70. The alert keeps the indicator settings it was created with, so recreate it after changing them.
  2. Drawing alerts. Draw a trend line or horizontal line, select it and use its alert button. The alert follows the line as it slopes.
  3. Interval matters. Alerts on price do not depend on the chart interval; alerts on indicators, strategies and drawings do. Create them on the timeframe you analysed.

Manage alerts

  1. Open the alert manager. Click the alarm-clock icon in the right toolbar to see, pause, edit or delete alerts and read the log of triggered ones.
  2. Keep the list short. Delete alerts you no longer need. How many active alerts you can have depends on your plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do TradingView alerts work when my computer is off?

Yes. Alerts run on TradingView's servers; you are notified in the app or by email.

How do I set an alert on a trend line?

Select the line, click the alert button in its floating toolbar, and choose how price should cross it.

Why did my indicator alert not trigger as expected?

Indicator alerts use the settings and interval they were created with. If you changed them later, delete the alert and create it again.
