How to install MetaTrader 5 on PC, phone and web

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is free to download. Your broker provides the account and the trade server; MetaQuotes provides the software. Install it from your broker's website or from metatrader5.com, and avoid unofficial download sites.

Install on a Windows PC

  1. Download the installer. Get mt5setup.exe from your broker's website or the download page on metatrader5.com. It is a small web installer that downloads the rest.
  2. Run it and review the settings. Open the file and accept the licence agreement. Click “Settings” if you want to change the installation folder or Start-menu group; otherwise keep the defaults.
  3. Click Next, then Finish. The installer downloads and installs the platform. When it finishes, MT5 opens and offers to open a demo account or connect to an existing one.
  4. Several accounts at once?. To run accounts from different brokers side by side, install MT5 again into a separate folder for each.

Install on iPhone or Android

  1. Open the App Store or Google Play. Search for “MetaTrader 5” and check the publisher is MetaQuotes before installing.
  2. Open the app. On first launch you can open a demo account or log in to a broker account (see the login guide).

Use the web version

  1. Open MT5 in your browser. The MetaTrader 5 web platform runs in a browser with no installation. Use the WebTerminal link on metatrader5.com or the one your broker gives you, and log in with your account number, password and server.
